Movin’ On Out!

Well friends: I’m moving on out of the WordPress scene and *back* over to Blogger.

{hold your shrieks!}

I have thought long and hard about my blog, and how I want it to evolve. Some of you may not know the full story so allow me to go into depth:

A few months back most of my images disappeared from my blogger blog. Poof- GONE! I no longer wanted to be “YoungHomeWifey” and wanted to be The Young Retiree- shop, blog, twitter, mail. I switched over to WP and was starstruck. I have always thought it was so difficult or above my head. It was pretty easy to get the hand of and there are definitely parts I am going to miss, but there are some things beyond my level of blogging and computer knowledge that are sending me back over to blogger to find my happy place. Oh, BTW: www.theyoungretiree.blogspot.com.

One of the things I love about blogging is the community. On blogger it is so easy to bond with people through GFC. I know you are following me and I can easily bounce on over to you to reciprocate! There is nothing worse than a one-sided relationship and while I don’t follow everyone who follows me, I have had some e-mails with ladies here who I genuinely wish I knew if they had a blog, and wanted to follow it! Blogger really is my “Blogging for Dummie’s” little yellow book in that aspect!

I will miss the formatting of images over here on WP, but I will not miss the sidebar being wonky and cutting images. It is a learning curve already over on blogger with formatting the text, but I will get the hang of getting things to look just the way I want, I’m sure, in no time.

I am going to be getting a blog overhaul with the New Year and look forward to a more professional looking blog that makes people happy to come on over, stop for a spot and enjoy a cup of tea (ooooh, which is another great post I have coming!).

I look forward to forming friendships with all my lovely readers, so head on over there, or add my new address to your reader and I promise- there is only one more move in my future, and that will be to my own doman ūüôā

It’s The Little Things Like :: Blog Friends!

This is no exaggeration, dear Friends- it’s the little things like you comments and the relationships I’ve created with so many of you that truly make my weeks better and my down days brighter. This party Lindsay hosts for example, fills my heart when I am able to read up on the things you have all been blessed by during the week. It is a beautiful way to spend some of my free time on the weekends and I look forward to it through the hectic week!

The swaps we are able to take part in may seem awkward or little to others, but to me they have filled my heart this week! I have sent off goodies to three gals I have never met-¬†two ornament swaps and one, to a blogger I am building a relationship, for no other reason than she is living without a Trader Joe’s (which should be illegal to not have one near every person!) and I felt she could use some tastiness! I had so much fun wrapping up the goodies and packaging them for the mail! I can’t wait for my ladies to get them.

Then, there was the AMAZING Cold Hands, Warm Heart swap Sandy and Illene hosted this year. I had the pleasure of shopping for Fiona, from England! I received the cutest package from her:

Awesome goodies from Fiona!

The cutest mittens (which are super warm as well!), some adorable little holiday stamps and some lotion/scrubs! It was so nice to get her little package in! I’ve not seen her post about the goodies I sent her, so it must still be travelling to her ūüė¶

The final little thing in my life concerning my blog lovelies is I am the new host of the “Love & Envelopes Birthday Club!” Click on the link to head on over and check it out! We only have a few folks signed up right now and I would love to make it as successful as it was last year! It’s the commitment of one card a month to a birthday buddy, then you get a bunch on your birthday! The more¬†folks who sign up, the more love we get to send to everyone! ¬†

What are little things that are helping you with the stress of the Holidays, friends? For me… it is each and every one of YOU!

Love & Envelopes Birthday Club :: It Will Go On!

Last year a very fabulous club was created by Lindsay and Megan called the Love & Envelopes Birthday Club. The torch is being passed to me and I hope to serve not only the amazing ladies who were a part of it last year, but any new folks wanting to participate in spreading birthday cheer!

Do you want to continue in the club?

Do you want to join in the fun?

It is super simple but please be advised it is a year-long commitment! All you have to do is send one person a birthday card, every month! We all know it is super fun to go out to our mailboxes and find beautiful surprises inside: this is certainly a fabulous way to spread cheer!

You can send your birthday person a small gift *if you want* but all you are required to send is a card!

If you are interested::

1: You must have an active blog

2: You must commit to sending one card every month in time for the birthday!

3: Answer the following questions and mail them on over to me (at love.envelopes.birthdays@gmail.com)

  • Name
  • E-Mail
  • Birthday
  • Blog Link
  • Shop Link (if applicable)
  • Twitter Handle (if applicable)
  • Address
  • Favorite Colors
  • Hobbies/interests
  • If you are willing to send to an international birthday friend or an APO/FPO address

Everyone who signs up will receive one e-mail every month with their birthday friend’s information. The e-mail will go out the last week or so of every month (giving you time to get your card to them before their birthday!). On the first of every month I will post an announcement with all of the birthday friends for that month, and link to the blog posts of all the previous month recipients! Make sure you write about what you get and spread the love to those who sent you some! The more folks who sign up, the more love you’ll get in your mailbox, so be sure to spread the word!

I am really looking forward to hosting what was such a fabulous exchange and would love to see it continue and grow! You only have a few days to sign up as I would love to get our first cards out for our January Birthdays! Again, please answer the above questions and send them to me at: love.envelopes.birthdays@gmail.com!

Oh, and would anyone like to make us a super cute button?

I can’t wait to “meet” you all and get this club continuing!

Gifts From Canada :: Package Pals!

Package pals? What?

A month or so ago I signed up on a pretty awesome little blog¬†to be a part of a gift exchange called “Package Pals”. I was paired up with Shutterbug in Canada and sadly, as of yet, she has not gotten her package ūüė¶ Who knew sending something to our northern neighbor could take so long!

I’ll share more on my package at the end, but for now, this is the sweet package I got in!

I thought their mail labels were pretty awesome!

Oh, I guess you want to take a peak at the awesome-ness that was on the inside though, huh? Ok, here we go:

BEAUTIFULLY packaged gifts!

Oh, But you want to really see what was underneath the pretty ribbon and paper? Me too! I ripped into the packages and was in for quite the treat from my package pal! Check out these cute things:

awesome stamping markers!

An awesome little Canadian mini t-shirt, cookie cutter of the Maple Leaf, and some Canadian coins! I was so excited at how shiny they were that I did not get a picture of just them... perhaps I'll instagram it later!

There was one more little goodie in my package::

Shutterbug's favorite candies... and the hunt begins to get some more ūüėÄ

¬†I had such a fun experience with this swap and it brought me some great joy during a very frustrating¬†time in our lives. I had¬†so much fun shopping for Shutterbug while we were on vacation back home in Virginia… and then couldn’t use what I had bought! She hasn’t gotten her package yet… but I’ll tell you about it down below!

———————

Growing up in Virginia I thought it would be really cool to send her some peanuts. I planned the whole package out and our shopping while we were back home, then recalled she let me know she was allergic to peanuts! Strike one.

I then thought it would be really cool to get her some Salt Water Taffy, which I happen to really, really enjoy. I could almost go as far as to say it’s my favorite candy! If you look on any box of Salt Water Taffy (even the stuff they sell out here in California) it will tell you (most likely, I’m sure there are exceptions) that it was made by the Forbes Candy Company in Virginia Beach, VA! I wrote a note about how it just reminded me of going to the beach as a kid, even when we went up to the Jersey Shore (and not the MTv one) we could get Salt Water Taffy from good ol’ Va Beach!

Wouldn’t you know like the second or third ingredient is PEANUT BUTTER???? Thank heavens I thought to check, right before I packaged the treats!

So instead, I sent off this:

Sand Dollar shaped soap, a sand dollar we found out here on the beach down in Coronado, a beachy candle, and a star fish soap dish/ring plate.

¬†I hope she loves it when she gets it… even though I couldn’t include my favorite treat!

The Great American Housewife

Posted on

Did you know that recently I have taken a step towards putting myself and my writing out there by joining Happy Homefront as a guest blogger? It is a community website not just for military spouses, but all spouses who thrive during separations from their loved one due to work (cross-country truck drivers, longshore fishermen, those in the airline industry and more! It’s so nice to get to know people who understand the separation we all go through, in different lifestyles!

I am the in-house “Domestic Diva”! An aspiring Bree Van De Kamp, if you will. I blog over there on Wednesdays about things like: recipes I find and love (and hopefully learn to not screw up), dinner party tips and tricks, the importance of handwritten notes, and next week: the awesome pantry we created this weekend!

This week my song for Amber‘s link up is “God Bless The American Housewife” by SheDaisy. Stop on by Happy Homefront, check it out, and join the community! See what¬†groups are over there and how we can support others with similar struggles yet separate lives.¬†

*As a side note: Thursday morning (tomorrow/this morning)¬†I will be going to yet another Doctor’s appointment for some stuff going on. I’m really scared about this one! It’s some more lab work and I will be on pins and needles until answers come back. Hopefully I will have some answers about my blood work. I just want to have some answers, know what steps we have to take, and work on getting better soon.

[edit: Appointment this morning was better than expected and you can read all about it right here later this evening or tomorrow for sure! Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! God is good, all the time, friends! ]

I’ve made the switch from Blogger to WordPress and am mostly comfortable over here. Sure, I don’t know how to comment on all the old blogs I follow so you can reply to me. Sure, I’m still working out kinks with pictures… and the fact I think they’re automatically sourced when I add from a link (big oops on that one!)¬†Eh, I’m not even sure you can follow me over here! But, you’re here and sticking with me! I appreciate all the love I’ve been getting over here and as a thank you, dear friends, giving away some of my favorite goodies ūüėÄ

What is it you’ll be winning? Well, there is a lot of stuff that can fit in one of those boxes! If I were Bob Barker, there would be fancy music playing right now and some hot middle-aged model would be showing you the showcase showdown, instead,¬†you’ll have to imagine the announcer’s voice [oh, and a picture to come Wednesday after I get the licorice at World market!]:

Burt’s Bees new lip balm¬†| Mango Licorice |¬†Strawberry Margarita by O.P.I | Shea butter soap in¬†an adorable box | a small bottle of BLOOMINGDALE’S¬†signature perfume! [haha, remember my Bloomie’s stop!]¬†| Re-usable tumbler ūüėÄ | Pearl Necklace, because every girl needs to feel beautiful! | Nautical Napkins [even if you’re not affiliated with the Navy, they’re great for summer in general!] | A scentsy¬†scent¬†circle! [Donated from the wonderfully amazing Katie! Check her out!] … plus, this weekend was crazy, but Wednesday I’m heading to World Market so there could be a few more goodies ūüėÄ (I’ll keep you updated via facebook and twitter!)

 Now comes the complicated part:

¬†“Oh,” you’re thinking, “how AWESOME! But Elizabeth, how do I win?”

Oh, but you want more chances to win?

¬†Do you like¬†The Young Retiree¬†on facebook? Oh, you do? Tell me you do in a new comment ūüėÄ

What’s that? You don’t? Well, head on over and “like” me and let me know in a comment!

Either way- another chance to win ūüėÄ

Oh-¬†you’re a twitter tweep¬†and follow my deepest tweets? Let me know you are and your handle- BOOM! Another chance!

Those all seem pretty easy, huh? That’s three entries.

I think we’ll kick it up a notch.

TWEET this giveaway [by clicking the T at the bottom of this post] INCLUDING @THEYOUNGRETIREE¬†and come back to let me know- TWICE… that’s right. Tweeting earns you TWO CHANCES! You are eligible to tweet once a day, every day! Please leave two comments per tweet.

What? You want more chances to win? Well, now you’re just being selfish, and nobody likes selfish girls, do they? I’ll give you one more though: BLOG about this giveaway, linking it to my blog, and you can get FOUR entries [please leave four comments].

Winner will be posted via facebook¬†[so, that’s an entry you’re not going to want to miss!]. Winner will then have 24 hours to contact me before we move on to the runner up!

This giveaway is not endorsed by any of the product companies. Good luck to you all: let the madness BEGIN!

Welcome to WordPress

I am seriously considering the change from Blogger over to WordPress. I don’t really know how committed I am to it. I don’t like change and I am not a fan of learning new things if I’m already comfortable with what I’m using. I have been hearing a lot of negative feedback about Blogger though, and would like to familiarize myself with WordPress. From what I’ve seen… it won’t be too difficult to get used to.

If you have found me over here: Hello! Please be patient as I make this switch from The Young Retiree over on Blogspot to The Young Retiree over here on WordPress!
